Seeking refuge in Europe: New transit routes, old policies
The events witnessed at the EU border over this last summer do not add up to a crisis. It merely made obvious to most what was already well known by some : European borders, asylum systems and migration policies lead to physical violence, regular human rights violation, and deaths. Behind a common system, national interests keep prevailing, leaving it to peripherical countries and region to carry both the burden, and when structures collapse, the blame. Analysing current policies and what they are the result of, we will explore proposals for a fundamentally different approach to movement.
