Jota Mombaça is a performance artist, writer and researcher, who lives in Natal/RN, northeastern of Brazil. His topics of interest are gender and sexuality politics, de-colonial struggles, politics of the voice, afrofuturism, marginalities and monsters.
In "Soterramento (Burial)" the artist tries to remain under a great amount of gravel stones and sand, while a text is being read in background, which reports a list of people that went missing, or have been murdered or injured by police violence in Brazil since June 2013. After the action, the residue must remain in the space as an installation. The idea is to build a memorial for victims of systemic violence and state terrorism in Brazil.
